Amazon’s Cloud Cam home security camera now on sale

Amazon’s new Cloud Cam home security camera is now on sale on Amazon’s website.

The camera is in many ways a standard web-connected surveillance camera for home use. The camera’s main claim to notoriety is its use as part of Amazon Key, the in-home delivery and guest access when you purchase the Amazon Key In-Home Kit (includes Cloud Cam Key Edition and an Amazon Key compatible smart lock) and allow Amazon employees to deliver your purchases directly into your home.

That service is however only available in 37 cities in USA, while the Cloud Cam would work anywhere as a more regular camera.

The 1080P camera also features a microphone and speaker and will also work with the Echo Show and Amazon is offering a subscription service to store video clips in the cloud long term.  The subscription service will activate more sophisticated features like motion detection, people detection, and zone monitoring.

“With intelligence that lives in the AWS cloud, over time you will see more advanced detection, alerts, and other new features become available in the service and on the camera itself, such as advanced audio alerts or pet detection, without having to purchase a new device,” said Amazon in a statement.

The basic purchase of a Cloud Cam gets you 24 hours of storage for video clips and support for three cameras with basic motion detection.

The subscription, however, comes in 3 flavours:

  • Basic ($6.99/mo, $69/yr) offers access to the last seven days of motion detection clips for up to three cameras
  • Extended ($9.99/mo, $99/yr) offers access to the last 14 days of motion detection clips for up to five cameras
  • Pro ($19.99/mo, $199/yr) offers access to the last 30 days of motion detection clips for up to 10 cameras

The full list of features include:

  • 24/7 monitoring – Stay connected to your home, family, and pets. Catch activities as they happen in 1080p Full HD and watch the last 24 hours of clips for free.
  • Notifications – Get notified when Cloud Cam sees activity and use the Cloud Cam App to check in anytime with live view.
  • See clearly in the dark – Night vision lets you detect what’s happening around the clock.
  • Two-way audio – Check in with the family or tell your dog to stop barking.
  • 30-day free trial – Get advanced features like person detection, Zones, and more storage, plus download & share clips with a Cloud Cam subscription.
  • Works with Alexa – Just ask Alexa to show your live feed on your Amazon Fire TV, Fire Tablet, Echo Show, or Echo Spot.
  • Cloud Cam’s intelligence lives in the cloud so it is always getting smarter with more advanced alerts, detection, and features.

The camera can now be ordered from for $119.99 with delivery starting the 14th November.  See it at Amazon here.
