Amazon Alexa targets 500 million users with Hindi language support

Less than 10% of total population in India speak English language. Until now, Amazon Alexa only supported English language in India. In order to make Alexa accessible for 500 million Hindi speaking people, Amazon today announced the support of Hindi language for Alexa users in India.

With Hindi language support, Alexa users in India can now express their voice commands in Hindi. Alexa will also respond in Hindi language. In the coming months, Amazon will add add multilingual households support, allowing members in the family to interact with Alexa in the language they prefer.

Recently, Amazon announced that it is adding support for Hindi language in Alexa Skills Kit (ASK). Using this support, developers can build voice experiences for Alexa in the new Hindi language model. Amazon is also allowing OEMs who want to develop Alexa Built-in products for Hindi-speaking customers in India to join the Alexa Voice Service (AVS) developer preview.
