Sony recently revealed the Sony Vaio Tap 20, the first of what they call a new category called Tabletop PC. This CNET video above gives a quick demo of the features.
Looking like a typical All-in-one, the 20 inch touch screen device differentiates itself by also having a battery which can provide up to 3 hours of autonomy, making it possible to take the PC from room to room or from the desk to a couch easily.
"VAIO Tap 20 is creating a new category of PC’s by combining desktop PC functionality, battery-powered mobility, and multi-angle viewing," said Steven Nickel, VP, Sony VAIO. "This along with the innovative VAIO Duo 11 and the intuitive touch solutions incorporated across our existing PC portfolio, offers consumers flexibility to optimize their Windows 8 experience. Through the combination of compelling applications, Sony’s network services, and cross device connectivity, VAIO is leading the way in developing a new Touchworld experience. We expect when consumers think of touch PCs, they’ll think of VAIO."
The affordable $879.99 PC available in Black and White will come with a variety of apps and services by Sony, like Sony Imagination Studio™ VAIO® Edition, which includes four powerful Sony applications: Movie Studio Platinum, ACID™ Music Studio, Sound Forge™ Audio Studio and DVD Architect™ Studio software and the Socialife application, which is a social feed aggregator that allows users to view, sort and manage social networks such as Facebook and Twitter, and news feeds through one stylish user interface.
The device features a 10 finger 20 inch 1,600 x 900 IPS display which is splash-resistant (presumably for kitchen use) with either a Core i3 or i5 processor, 4 GB RAM and a 500 GB HDD or SSD, NFC, 1.3 megapixel camera and dual speakers and a subwoofer and weighs 11.4 pounds.
With Windows 8 account synchronization technology, one can easily imagine surrounding oneself with Windows 8 PCs in a wide variety of form factors.
