The Samsung Galaxy Fold has had a rather difficult journey to the market, but the device finally went on sale in South Korea today, and by all accounts, the device is a hit.

SamMobile reports that around 4000 units of the device sold out in minutes, and were being resold for up to $4000, double the $1980 price.

Even Samsung was surprised by the demand and has increased the number of devices allocated for the second batch of orders.

The device will also go on pre-order on the 18th September in Germany and the UK, but I suspect, given the amount of new technology in the device, customers will be somewhat more cautious here. In total Samsung expects to sell around 1 million of the folding smartphones over the next year.

Samsung still hasn’t commented on when the Galaxy Fold will launch in the US.
