We have previously posted that the UK Marketplace only has 32 apps. Our US readers protested that the situation is a lot different in US, and have sent us this screen shot of Marketplace there. While 173 apps are still a lot less than the 600 previously rumoured for launch day, the number has steadily been growing throughout the day.
Having the majority of apps not accessible in most of the world is far from ideal, and in some locals it would make marketplace as a Windows Mobile feature completely worthless. This is the outcome of Microsoft charging $10 for each additional market, and with 29 markets available this obviously ads up quickly, especially for free and niche apps.
Of note has been our finding that you cant choose to install apps to the storage card, cant return apps from the device, and that a soft reset can allow the downloaded cab to be copied (which may then allow installation to the storage card).
We will continue to cover Marketplace news, and hope for a massive launch boost tomorrow.
