Windows 10 has started rolling out to the world just a few hours ago. The latest update to Windows is a major update, it’s a bit buggy, but it’s miles better than Windows 8/8.1. To get Windows 7 and 8/8.1 users to upgrade to Windows 10, Microsoft is offering a free upgrade to Windows 10. If you’ve reserved your Windows 10 upgrade, Windows should have already started downloading the OS for you. Even after downloading the whole OS, it may take a while for the installation/upgrade to be available.

If you’re like me and can’t not patient enough for Windows Update to prompt you to update, there’s a quick hack to get it right now. Here’s how to do it:

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator
  • Enter wuauclt.exe /updatenow
  • Give it a  few minutes, and open up Windows Update
  • Voila! You should now have the Windows 10 upgrade prompt on your Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 PC!
