The Windows Phone community helped raise more than $40,000 for a port of VLC to Windows Phone in December 2012, but now, more than 18 months later, we still have not seen hide or hair of the app.

According to ex-Microsoft insider Nawzil however the app is still on the way, with a bit of help from Microsoft.

According to him VideoLan, the developers, are working with AppCampus, a joint venture between Microsoft and Aalto University to assist in Windows Phone development of the app.  This is likely a good idea, given all the issues VideoLan had in certifying the Windows 8 version of the app.

The app is due in August, but since the dark days of 2012 however, a number of other video player apps have arrived on Windows Phone, including MoliPlayer. Are any of our readers, including those who contributed to the Kickstarter, still waiting for the app? Let us know below.
