We have been intrigued by what appeared to be a mysterious new sensor on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+.

Speculated to be an LED indicator or IR Blaster, it turns out the truth is somewhat more mundane.

According to SamMobile, the hole is in fact a secondary speaker hole which allows the handset to produce significantly more powerful stereo audio.

The addition of the hole was necessitated by the much smaller earpiece which is still embedded in the bezel, but which is now too small for proper loud stereo sound.

While the speaker hole does solve a problem, I suspect many would have appreciated the return of IR Blasting even more.
