While Microsoft’s Windows 10 ships with a powerful and well designed weather app which handles most of the basics, some of the benefits of having a third-party app ecosystem is that you can find a replacement app that devotes more time on little details that you may appreciate better.

Enter Rain Gauge, my current favourite Windows 10 weather app for PC and Mobile devices. On the surface of it, the app s a typical weather app for Windows. It’s well designed, with a dark (blue) theme and a light minimalist theme as contrast. It offers live tiles and a detailed run down of the weather for users of Windows 10 and all the usual stuff a weather app does.

What makes Rain Gauge stand out from other apps is it’s – well – “Rain Gauge”. If you’re in an area where it is predicted to rain, Rain Gauge will send you a notification informing you of the predicted amount of rain so you can take action on it. You can customise the amount of rain which triggers the notification, as well as the times between which the notifications will occur. So if you’re going to be out and about between the hours of 10am –  4pm and you want rain notifications for only then, you can do that.

Like mentioned above, the app is available for both mobile and PC, but is more useful on mobile devices because you’re more likely to be walking around with them in your pocket than you are a laptop.
