Microsoft today announced the general availability of Visual Studio for Mac. This new IDE is based on Xamarin Studio, but its UX is inspired by Visual Studio on Windows. Developers can use this to work on end-to-end solutions – from mobile and web apps to games – but also to integrate with and deploy to Azure. They can use C#, F#, .NET Core, ASP.NET Core, Xamarin or Unity.

Visual Studio for Mac is based on the open source MonoDevelop IDE and it has a rich extensibility model. Developers can use to add their own functionality ranging from simple editor commands to entirely new languages and project types.

You can download it today here.
