The latest WhatsApp private beta for Windows Phone has been updated to version 2.12.20.

New in this version is the ability to send MP3s over WhatApp’s network without any hacks. This was one of the most requested feature on the WhatsApp Uservoice. Unfortunately users are unable to save the mp3s to their music folder.

In addition the much desired read receipt toggle has been added under Privacy in settings.  Switching this off for yourself will also stop you from seeing when others read your messages.

The update also add new animations when sending and opening a text and chat bubbles. Check out the animations below.

Lastly the update adds multi-select to the Chat list and to forward multiple messages in a chat.

In terms of performance, the app now appears to suspend when exited via the back button rather than terminating.

Hopefully these changes will make it to the main client sooner rather than later. Also you can send your suggestions to the WhatsApp team through Uservoice.

Thanks Rushab for the tip, some screen shots via Emanuele.
