Ahead of GDC 2019, images of what appears to be Google’s gaming controller have been leaked. The images were posted by RepsUp100 on Twitter and appear to be legitimate.

Of course, these images aren’t necessarily the controller’s final design, and are most likely just a mock-up. The mock-up designs may exist to measure people’s reactions to the design.
From a gaming point of view, the Google controller currently seems a little clunky. The handles are considerably thick and un-tapered, as well as being quite short, meaning the controller might be a bit hefty to wield.
The analog joysticks are symmetrical, akin to a traditional DualShock PlayStation controller. However, players who are used to the asymmetrical design of Nintendo Joy-Cons or Xbox One controllers may find themselves thrown off by this pattern.
The color scheme of the controller stays true to Google’s traditional color scheme but people may notice that some of the buttons lack a design, with each button having an assigned color instead.
There also appears to be a home button, a settings button, a dedicated Google button, and a microphone button.
While there’s no view of the back of the controller in these images, a patent filed by Google back in October 2018 show four more buttons on the back of the controller. Two of the buttons seem quite large.
It’s known that Google are apparently announcing something big at GDC 2019, so stay tuned.
GDC 2019 is set to run from Monday 18th of March until Friday 22nd of March.
