miljoona

After only two years of sales Nokia Lumia handsets managed to take around 20% of the Finnish phone installed base, with Nokia announcing on their Finnish site that they have sold 1 million handsets since February 2012, when the Nokia Lumia 800 was released there.

Finland only has a population of 5.4 million people, making its Windows Phone penetration I am sure by far the highest in the world.

The penetration numbers are supported by Statcounter data (corrected for spurious s40 numbers), which shows Windows Phone between 20 and 25% of the market .

It remains to be seen if this will continue into the future, after Nokia’s handset ownership passes to Microsoft, and also after the Nokia brand slips from the Lumia handsets. Worryingly it seems growth has stalled around the time Nokia and Microsoft’s deal was officially announced in September, and that there has been a significant dip in the first 2 months of 2014.

It is clear however that  Finland is still a rather unique environment for Windows Phone.  What are our Finnish reader’s real life experience of this statistic? Let us know below.
